# Frequently Asked Questions

# What is TrackMyTour?

TrackMyTour is a travel tracking app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Updates made with the app are displayed on an online map for friends and family to follow along.

# My location is wrong. What's going on?

TrackMyTour uses Location Services (opens new window) to determine your location and has no control of its accuracy. There are many factors that affect the accuracy of the GPS, including: the device model, data connection, proximity to WiFi & cell towers, and whether the device is obstructed from the sky.

# Why is there no line connecting my waypoints over the Pacific Ocean?

This is a limitation of the mapping software where lines connecting over the International Date Line are drawn by looping around the world in the opposite direction. TrackMyTour gets around this limitation by dropping these line segments.

# How do I remove the line connecting waypoints?

Sign in on the website with a browser, view your map, and click the pencil icon next to the map title. Set the "Track Width" setting to "None" and save your map.

# How do I change the cover photo of a map?

Open the map in the app, select a photo, and long press on the photo. You'll be given the option of making it the cover photo of your map.

# How can I use the date and location of a geotagged photo when adding it to a waypoint?

Tap the photo after adding it to the "Add Waypoint" or "Edit Waypoint" view. You will be given the option to set the waypoint to the date, time, and/or location of the photo. The options depend on what information is available on the photo.

# Can I retroactively add waypoints?

Yes. On the Add Waypoint screen you can tap the Location and Date fields to place a waypoint at a location in the past.

You can also tap any added photos to position the waypoint at the time and location of the photo. This assumes your photo was properly geotagged.

# Is TrackMyTour a real-time tracker?

No. Waypoints are added at discrete locations whenever you want to highlight a location or say, "Here I am." This minimizes battery consumption since the device isn't continuously tracking you.

# Can I create waypoints without a data connection?

Yes, as long as the device is able to determine your location. Waypoints can be saved offline and submitted at a later time when you have an internet connection (e.g., at the hotel where you have WiFi access). This is useful when traveling to foreign countries where data roaming costs can be expensive.

# Can I add more than one photo per waypoint?

Yes. The Freemium version supports up to two photos per waypoint. TrackMyTour Plus supports up to 20 photos per waypoint.

Anyone can view Public maps. Public maps are openly listed in the app and on the TrackMyTour website for other users to discover and follow.

"Limited, anyone with the link" is technically visible by anyone, but only if they know or guess the link. These maps are not listed in the app or on the TrackMyTour website.

Private maps are only visible by you, when you're signed in. Such maps cannot be shared.

# I searched for a friend's map but could not find it. How do I find it?

It's not possible to search for maps with limited or private visibility due to privacy restrictions. The easiest way to find a tour is to have your friend share their map with you. Have your friend open their map, tap the action button, select "Share", and then "Mail". From here they can send you an e-mail with a link to their map.

# Are there plans to support Android?

Yes! It's now available on the Google Play Store (opens new window).

# What does an online map look like?

Have a look at Adam and Christy's Give A Bike 50 State Tour (opens new window).

# Is TrackMyTour free?

The TrackMyTour app and website are free to use, but you are restricted to two maps and two photos per waypoint. If you wish to create more maps and add more photos per waypoint, you can purchase a subscription to TrackMyTour Plus. Your subscription helps with our hosting, development, and licensing costs. We appreciate the support!

There is no cost if you only use TrackMyTour to follow other users.

See TrackMyTour Plus for more information.

# Where can I get it?

TrackMyTour can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (opens new window) and Google Play Store (opens new window). You can also search for “trackmytour” in either store.

# How do I delete a map, waypoint, or comment?

Maps, waypoints, and comments (on your maps) can be deleted by swiping across the item in the map, waypoint, or comment list.

# Why are my waypoints out of order?

Each waypoint has a "date & time" associated with it. When you add a new waypoint, the "date & time" defaults to the present (based on the clock of your device).

Waypoints can be retroactively added by modifying the date & time. This can happen in one of two ways:

  • by tapping the "Date & Time" option in the Add or Edit Waypoint screen, and manually setting the date & time, or
  • by adding a geotagged photo to the waypoint, and assigning the date & time of the photo to the waypoint.

Both of these methods can introduce errors. For example, by selecting the wrong date, or forgetting to assign the date & time of a photo to the waypoint.

Waypoints with an incorrect date & time can be corrected by editing the waypoint, and changing the date & time to the correct value. If there are photos associated with the waypoint, you can try tapping a photo to assign the date, time, and location of the photo to the waypoint.
