The theme of this trip was solitude. We rented a camper van for the first time (an Airstream Westfalia) and headed to the desert to be on our own and take in as much of the night sky as we could. We returned to our origin, San Francisco, via Hwy 1.

Anthony Chabot Campground. A beautiful spot in the hills with a view just 30 minutes from Oakland. Alas, our last night in the Westy as we returned it to its owner the following day.

Fillmore, CA boondocking on the street. Ran out of daylight and options on our way to the coast, so improvised and parked in front of an apartment complex on a quiet street. No issues at all.

White Tank Campground, Joshua Tree National Park. Spent two nights here as well as we explored and hiked the park.

Mesquite Spring campground in Death Valley. The only campground in the park that doesn't look like a dirt parking lot. Still overcast.

Alabama Rocks. A fun place to camp with interesting hikes all around. We would have stayed longer if it had been either sunny or warm.
