one final laundry and all done.
got rear-ended in Sausalito by of all things a park ranger (thought they weren't working today, I asked he said he was doing closures). have been magically transported to San Francisco.
dinner. oooof. long ride 98 miles with 6200 feet of climbing. caught out after dark for the last 8 miles.
my b&b reward
rain, rain, rain.. tons of it. once i hit the coast it let up and while wet and a little windy has been good. rode most of the day with a guy from los gatos which definitely made it pass faster. fair bit of climbing. hot coffee good.
ok, that's not good.
flat 6 (5 was 8 miles back). bad day for flats.. worse day for raccoons.. this highway is littered with their (formerly adorable) corpses (i'll spare you the photos)
beautiful 101 has turned into this monstrosity, waiting for the pch now. as an aside there are more meth-heads in eureka than all of oregon and idaho combined.
view from the cockpit.
laundry. i spend a lot of time in laundromats. i managed to find the only laundromat without vending machines. i'm hungry.
norcal. i can feel my expenses rising.
ok.. this is actually a beauty to behold. this part of oregon is the land of full service gas stations without minimarts. huh?
that I haven't died from hypothermia isn't for lack of trying.. sun/rain have been off/on. still my favourite sign of course.
that would be the sun!!! haven't seen that since the columbia.
made the coast.. surprise, it's raining.. hiding out in a Starbucks waiting for a break. accuweather says it's not raining oddly enough.
coastal range climb 1
yesterday was horrible.. dumped on, wind gusts, hilly and mid 30s. think hypothermia. bailed after 30 miles and callsd it a rest day. today is muuuch better. photo is today's food cache.
portlandia. cute climb to skyline drive.
bridge of the gods
gotta go swimming.
found the wind.
nothing like a 1,000 foot climb first thing to warm ya up.
my bike relaxing in a dodgy hotel room.
not a good photo but the first look at the cascades.
john day dam
one advantage of the interstate is being able to live off the fat of land (rice krispy bars and gatorade).
columbia.. and off the interstate. nearly no wind.. amazing luck for the columbia river gorge.
hermiston.. nearly to the columbia
top of cabbage hill.. this descent is a bit of a legend.
always fun to pass trucks
prob'ly there's a story here
flat number 1. :-(
and so is this!
well, that's a welcome sign.
trees!! yesterday's winds must have been considerably more than 15-20. today is same but going 2-3x faster.
happy rest stop. omg.. 15 to 20mph headwinds gusting to 30+. had hoped for pendleton but there's no way.
climb out of the treasure valley. as an aside I was only 5 miles into oregon before someone tried to sell me weed. awesome.
short ride to the edge of my backyard.
requisite late start!
