Have been dreaming of this moment for a month! Thai in Jackson, WY!
Made it to Jackson, WY!! Doing some re-arranging of gear. Yes, I rode down here...(in a car, gasp!) but it just worked out better this way - and now I can spend more time here vs. having to just blow thru and move on.

There is no two ways around it...it's hot, smells like smoke (forest fire somewhere??), got a big climb and this (momentarily) sucks. Can't wait for the downhill on the other side!!
KOA in Butte. Kinda hate these big campgrounds, so noisy and it just doesn't feel like camping w/ so many other people here...but I'm not complaining. Free WIFI and HOT showers.

Brutal road conditions...inch deep sand and washboard - up and down. Ugggg!

Philly cheese steak in Swan Lake, MT - gas station style. Not my first choice, but not that bad either!
A hot dusty day, taking a load off before final 6ish miles to some sort of camping.
Lots of long, rolling country roads....reminds me of Maine to Oregon last summer ... These paved sections make me wish for my road bike.
Late lunch in Columbia Falls. Found a large box of hot tamales, really don't have room for them, but got em anyway!
Highly recommend the Buffalo Cafe in Whitefish...breakfast heaven! Will go back for bfast tomorrow b4 leavin too!
Heaven for a hungry cyclist: Whitefish's farmers market, live music & food carts!! Eating at as many as I can. #nomnom
Camping next to a teepee!!
Joined at camp by ACA group! Fun to camp with and they kindly shared dinner and breakfast!!
Yup, this kinda day...
I've coined a new cycling term..."shadehoppin". Where you cycle from patch of shade to patch of shade...
Back on the road headed toward Whitefish...will prob take a few days to get there. Hot weather!! :-) not complaining thow!
The final push to get over the border needed a little something special! Thank you Oreo ice cream cookie! (not pictured, 5hr Energy too)
Best breakfast bagel ever! Holy cow! Fernie's Big Bang Bagels - nom nom!
Typical scene: siting outside the camp registration building in Sparwood, BC, "borrowing" wifi...
You know your climbing a good grade when the oncoming traffic have a "runaway lane"...I'm just sayin...
THIS is the part of bike touring I love.....
Made it to Elkford! Has been a long few days of mostly wet/rainy weather. MUD is the element of choice as it has really dictated how fast i can go downhill, how hard it is to pedal on the flat and how frequently and often I have to get off and just push the bike uphill. Ohhhhh how different a few rain drops make! The good side is I didn't get sunburned nor ever didn't have water to filter and drink!
Let GDMBR Begin!! Sure it's pouring rain....fitting I say! Goodbye Banff!
Bike is built and seemingly made it unscathed in transport! More setup tomorrow and last minute fun.
Morning!! Sunrise from Banff! Busy day ahead - off to find coffee!
Touring The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route - Canada to Mexico - Summer, 2012. #acaGDMBR

This area was my favorite part of your trip last year - the pics were & are amazing!!! Hope you're having a blast!
If you are bored and have wifi you can have a look at our Vietnam and Pacific Coast trip on www.kenandjenny.com
Cycleoz: charging gadgets happens anytime I stop at a restaurant or store...just plug in the iPhone or camera. I also have a small portable battery that can charge my phone, camera, cycle computer from a USB port. If you are going to have "gadgets" on this type of trip where you could go 2days with out electricity, you need a portable source. Lots of ppl use solar chargers, however I had this other one previously so am using that.
I'm bet you are glad that you have got minimal luggage. How Are charging your gadgets
cycleoz: there is very little what I'd call "technical singletrack" or traditional downhill mountain biking. It's more like you said, wild ruts, rocks, sand and sections where you have no choice but to push (up and down). It's all very weather dependent too...what might be a nice dirt road today could turn to impassable mud tomorrow. There are a few sections where the ACA maps give you options around really difficult stretches...and a lot of people end up taking those. For example, yestersay's ride down Fleecer Ridge is only for those wanting a real challenge as the downhill is literally just down the side of a mountain. (ie if you were to fall, you'll fall for a while)...so the map gives an alternate route but also tells you to try it - but definitely walk your bike.
Btownbound : thanks!! This route is so different every day! From paved, gravel, rocky to insane... I've seen it all! And there's SOO much more to come!
Those rough roads looks like a real challenge. From the photos it looks like the ride is not technical at all, but more ruts and deep sand make it hard. Is that the same for pushing up the hills? Ken
Your ride is so awesome. I feel like a chump with all the roads I ride. Congrats on tunnel No. 9.
Ken - Glad you are enjoying it!! I am following the ACA maps from Banff to Antelope Wells, however as you noticed I have taken highway 83 down to Seeley Lake here...that's because Im nursing a knee back to health....(old injury really, just re-aggravated in an off bike slip in mud on day 3 - nothing glamorous) and I figure I'm in it to finish...so I'll skip some of the climbing at the moment. Not to say 83 was flat!! ha! far from it!! but the grades were more gradual (or so I am telling myself) and easier on my knee. but as of tomorrow, im back on ACA's route toward ovando and lincoln (spelling??). any other questions, just ask!! also follow me on twitter: @RideDivide....
I'm impressed with your tracking. I'm using it to plan my ride for next year. If ACA do the same rides next year. I'll do the Banff to Whitefish with them and then do Whitefish south with my wife as she is not a strong rider. Do you think that is a good option? I also notice you are now riding on Route 83 and not the ACA route. Is there any reason you have done that? Continuing on how did you plan your route?
May the wind be always on your back and all hills downhill.
Sweet ride! I'm doing my first tour right now and find your trip very impressive. I hope you make it to glacier. It's my favorite park. Good riding and stay cool in the rockies.
Also I'm sorry for lack on TMT posts but in Canada here I don't have my phone turned on (to avoid expensive roaming fees) but when I enter the US, these will pick up bigtime!
Saw my first Grizzly today actually!!!! Was riding down a hill along a river, he was just off the path maybe 30feet. With the noise of the river he somehow didn't hear me (I was even singing!) and thank goodness! Was epic thow/I feel very lucky to have seen one so "easily"! If you are smart about it, make noise as you ride, hang/box your food etc. at night...you should be pretty good. I consider this being my first sighting a sign that I'm doing something right and they hear me and leave b4 I run into them!
Any bears yet. Coming from OZ I don't know weather to worry about them
Dad, Uncle Dan and Auntie B wish you all the best. Sitting on the deck before bkfast, we are thinking of you!!!!! What a gorgeous day here...hope the same for you. Looking at Mt Princeton.... You will be here in 6weeks?Love ya....
It finally starts. Good luck
