Hachita, NM!! Just killin time...
65 miles!!! What what.
In the bustling metropolis of Separ, NM. Where NOTHING is...but a tourist store. Camping outside next to that.
Met up w/ a Canadian cyclist...will ride to Separ w/ him.
Had a great day! Ran into Patrick (local warm showers host) at the Gila Hike and Bike, and he was kind enough to treat me to lunch!! Awesome day!!
Bike checkup time.
Finally - Silver City, NM
Another one down!!
The climb is well worth it today!
Quite the climb this AM...at least its paved!
Look what I found!! COLD WATER!!!
Back on pavement! Wahoo
Finally some downhill into The valley below.
Flats and flies, two things NM has in abundance.
Another divide crossing!
Rocky Canyon - aptly named
Came down the otherwise only yesterday!
The climbing continues. And it's hot. Fun.
There is nothing flat about NM b4 silver city.
Headed back down...will take on climbing back out in the AM.
Finally some downhill!
Wall lake. Aptly named.
Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere...there's a ranger station and a pop machine!!!! The best .75cents I've had in a long time!

Got Mud?! Off day-spa day-NM style
Let's just say I am so wet, I had to ask for a mop to clean up where I was sitting...and even took off my shoes so I wouldn't track mud after mopping.
A wild day of mud. Details to come.
Rain soaked tent ...
Rain rain go away! Gonna pack a wet tent tomorrow....
That's UPhill by the way...
"Inpassable when wet"... I bet!! Inpassable when dry!

Incredible views ... Everywhere.
Summitville Superdund Site
One of the coolest things about accomplishing lofty goals...the universe rewards you for your effort. Three motorcyclists came over the pass with me and gave me a celebratory beer. Thanks guys! Cheers everyone!!

This is what my morning initials...how about yours? Ha!
Creek side wild campsite.
On the Oregon Trail!
Wide. Open. Space.
And just like that...back to dirt.
Haha there are so many "historical markers." I wonder who writes them...this one ends "So ended fremont's exploration of the wind river mountains and his stay in sublette county." Earth shattering stuff this...hehe
My room has two coyote or wolf hides on the wall...hmmm
Gearin up for the Great Basin - long, hot & dry. Added water to my rig and time to crank out miles! (well in the AM that is) nite!
Busy morning of laundry and planning the days ahead! Lots of biking to do!

A bit smokey, but still a beautiful view.
Had a blast in Jackson, now to tackle the rest of WY!
Snuggled w/ two awesome poodles this AM. They tried to help me pack.
Yup, this happened....(Thai x2 in as many days)
Have been dreaming of this moment for a month! Thai in Jackson, WY!
Made it to Jackson, WY!! Doing some re-arranging of gear. Yes, I rode down here...(in a car, gasp!) but it just worked out better this way - and now I can spend more time here vs. having to just blow thru and move on.
We have fire!!
Lunch with Anders.
A perfect day to ride!! 77deg and sunny...ahhh life is good
Left town this AM amid maybe 40 Dirtbike divide riders. Only was able to catch the last few leaving.
YUMMM nothin like gas station microwaveable breakfasts....
Hauled a$$ so as to see the w soccer gold medal Olympic game. Success!!
Today's bfast: a fruit bar, vanilla almond butter on bread and Canadian beef jerky. Bfast of champions.
It is so windy and about to pour, I've set up my tent under a shelter...but had to get creative with the rigging because I can't stake it down. And it's blowing gusts of 20+mph!
Long, straight, wavy and hazy.
Long and straight...
Leaving the Pioneer Mountains...purdy darn beautiful!
The smallest post office ive ever been to!

Continental Divide #5 (total so far I believe)...and crossing the CDT!
Fantastic view!! Overlooking Butte's watershed.
Crossing under a railroad trestle...
There is no two ways around it...it's hot, smells like smoke (forest fire somewhere??), got a big climb and this (momentarily) sucks. Can't wait for the downhill on the other side!!
KOA in Butte. Kinda hate these big campgrounds, so noisy and it just doesn't feel like camping w/ so many other people here...but I'm not complaining. Free WIFI and HOT showers.
I've officially biked on every possible road surface today ...
A few places ive been waitin for all trip. This is one! Tunnel No.9.
Oh yeah! More hike-bike!
Haha love this sign...
Hellish route but worth the view!!
Lava Mountain - what you got?!
Despite its difficulty, it's SOO much fun!!! And beautiful!
"next 2+ mikes are steep and rough"...no kidding!!
The super awesome people camping next to me just shared their dinner of pasta, spinach, olive bread and fruit w/ me!! Sooooo awesome! Their two twin kids are adorable too!
Beautiful campsite for the nite - park lake.
Brutal road conditions...inch deep sand and washboard - up and down. Ugggg!
Lovely view on the way down! Headed toward Park Lake, MT to camp.
Funny how that works: a 20deg drop in temp from ridin last and I'm actually cold!!
I'm on the right route!!!
It's a tough life... Catching up on the Olympics today during my day off...
Motelin' it...just gotta be done. Day off in Helena tomorrow! Yahoo

Made it to the top of climb one!
Another perfect day to climb!
Life is good!
I've always wondered what and who these old log houses are doing and belonged to at the top of remote mountain passes...
Time to climb! (or in my case, push)
Couldn't ask for a nicer day.
Heading up towards my first pass today...dusty but infrequently trafficked dirt roads and plenty of shade opportunities!
Keepin on truckin...hello Helena Nat Forest!
Yup!! Followed this black bear down Huckleberry Pass today!
A much needed rootbeer float post Huckleberry Pass today.
Climbing up Huckleberry Pass...view is amazing!
Campsite at coppers lake
Haha, I was worries it might not be open...but now I know. Ovando is open!
Hard to see picture, but nothing like some awesome downhill to lift spirits on this 90+deg day! (pic shows my route going downhill via topo lines)
If only I had all day here!!! Ropeswing!!
Lovely lakes!! Cottonwood Lakes, MT. Should have camped here!!!
A lovely morning on the trail...

Hot! Shade break, 97.9deg
Not the only one Enjoyin the shade!
Beer, beans, bacon. Enough said.
Small town American stores, love em.
Breakfast of champions.
Mission Accomplished!! Olympics on TV!!!
Philly cheese steak in Swan Lake, MT - gas station style. Not my first choice, but not that bad either!
A hot dusty day, taking a load off before final 6ish miles to some sort of camping.
Lots of long, rolling country roads....reminds me of Maine to Oregon last summer ... These paved sections make me wish for my road bike.
Late lunch in Columbia Falls. Found a large box of hot tamales, really don't have room for them, but got em anyway!
Highly recommend the Buffalo Cafe in Whitefish...breakfast heaven! Will go back for bfast tomorrow b4 leavin too!
Heaven for a hungry cyclist: Whitefish's farmers market, live music & food carts!! Eating at as many as I can. #nomnom
Camping next to a teepee!!
Joined at camp by ACA group! Fun to camp with and they kindly shared dinner and breakfast!!
Yup, this kinda day...
I've coined a new cycling term..."shadehoppin". Where you cycle from patch of shade to patch of shade...
Back on the road headed toward Whitefish...will prob take a few days to get there. Hot weather!! :-) not complaining thow!
The final push to get over the border needed a little something special! Thank you Oreo ice cream cookie! (not pictured, 5hr Energy too)
Best breakfast bagel ever! Holy cow! Fernie's Big Bang Bagels - nom nom!
Typical scene: siting outside the camp registration building in Sparwood, BC, "borrowing" wifi...
You know your climbing a good grade when the oncoming traffic have a "runaway lane"...I'm just sayin...
THIS is the part of bike touring I love.....
Made it to Elkford! Has been a long few days of mostly wet/rainy weather. MUD is the element of choice as it has really dictated how fast i can go downhill, how hard it is to pedal on the flat and how frequently and often I have to get off and just push the bike uphill. Ohhhhh how different a few rain drops make! The good side is I didn't get sunburned nor ever didn't have water to filter and drink!
Let GDMBR Begin!! Sure it's pouring rain....fitting I say! Goodbye Banff!
Bike is built and seemingly made it unscathed in transport! More setup tomorrow and last minute fun.
Morning!! Sunrise from Banff! Busy day ahead - off to find coffee!
