On our way to Fall River MA. Old stone walls everywhere. We wild camped last night and the night before that we slept in a "cottage" build for the president of Western Union in the 20s.

Burlington VT Lake Champlain. 3 climate talks today and I don't want to hear the c word anymore for awhile. Down by the lake listening to an outdoor concert, then on to set up our tent in some kind Warmshowers host's backyard cause the campground was full. 4 days to ride to Portland ME
Ferry to Vermont. Things are heating up for us on the east coast. Lots of speaking invites; on the 14th we have 3 in one day!

Lake Erie, Ontario
We stumbled upon an exhibit of Victorian anthropomorphic taxidermy at a farmhouse museum and were disappointed to learn that we missed a very good stuffed squirrel exhibit in the basement of a funeral home in Madison. Last night had magical ride at dusk past silent spinning windmills rising from cornfields.
Just crossed river into Ontario. We are both a little worn out from trying to juggle the contradictory demands of climate work and touring, taking a vacation from politics till Buffalo.
Westphalia MIchigan's one stoplight.
The attack of the wild parsnip. Sap plus sunlight equals sorry. I think I got this the night we went thru some weeds in the dark to get water from a river. Mike says he's glad it's not him but if he had got it, I know he wouldn't whine as much as I do.
GIANT puffball! It was too old to eat but it's younger sister made a fine dinner and breakfast.
Madison's hospitable Arboretum co housing. Home to 40 families in the urban center. They put us up for 2 nights. We did one TV interview and 2 talks, one for med students and one for general public. PSR, Citizens Climate Lobby, 350.org and Sierra Club all helped and co sponsored and best of all, we were not just preaching to the choir!
Cacti growing on roadside in Wisconsin?? Saw lots along one quarter mile stretch. Frequently is -20 in winter. Stayed last night in prototype passive solar home in Viroqua that only uses equivalent of one hairdryer's worth of power to heat in winter, and last winter didn't even turn it on!
North of Rochester MN great folks, good talk last night, wonderful host (thanks Stephanie). Still preaching to the choir but they say it will help them in their work.
Minneapolis from one of their many beautiful bike parkways. great talk here last night, on to Rochester

Lochsa River, Idaho
Clearwater River, we've been swimming twice today and still riding. Idaho folks are very friendly
Winter canyon of the Chief Joseph band of Nez Perce. The whites kicked them out of course. We camped up on the rim.
Memorial to Chief Joseph the elder
Wallowa Lake, near town of Joseph, OR. Michael is no longer a rodeo virgin. We went to the rodeo during Chief Joseph Days. The best part was the 4 year olds riding "bucking" sheep. They call it mutton busting. Too cute. And when a pissed off bull had all the rodeo guys climbing the fence, with the crowd cheering him on.
Wallowa mountains, we rode thru em
Baker City Miners Jubilee. Oh oh, our climate talk is titled Climate911!
Above Prairie City
John Day, OrDoc Hay's Chinese Medical Office/store/temple/bunkhouse/casino
John Day Fossil Beds Natl Monument. They have an amazing collection of plant and animal fossils from the area covering a time span including tropical, temperate forest, and grassland climates. They also have an energy neutral visitor center and net positive energy ranger housing.
Smith Rocks SP central Oregon, home of world's 3rd most difficult rock climb
Campground at Sisters Oregon. These folks pull a camper trailer and still get 30mpg in contrast to the gas guZzling monster in the background
MEDICATIONSVasotec Tablets 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 20mg (enalapril)
Great example of mixed use development in Eugene, which has many, and awesome bicycle infrastructure as well. We are starting our across the US ride now.
