On our way to Fall River MA. Old stone walls everywhere. We wild camped last night and the night before that we slept in a "cottage" build for the president of Western Union in the 20s.

We stumbled upon an exhibit of Victorian anthropomorphic taxidermy at a farmhouse museum and were disappointed to learn that we missed a very good stuffed squirrel exhibit in the basement of a funeral home in Madison. Last night had magical ride at dusk past silent spinning windmills rising from cornfields.

Just crossed river into Ontario. We are both a little worn out from trying to juggle the contradictory demands of climate work and touring, taking a vacation from politics till Buffalo.

The attack of the wild parsnip. Sap plus sunlight equals sorry. I think I got this the night we went thru some weeds in the dark to get water from a river. Mike says he's glad it's not him but if he had got it, I know he wouldn't whine as much as I do.

Madison's hospitable Arboretum co housing. Home to 40 families in the urban center. They put us up for 2 nights. We did one TV interview and 2 talks, one for med students and one for general public. PSR, Citizens Climate Lobby, 350.org and Sierra Club all helped and co sponsored and best of all, we were not just preaching to the choir!

Cacti growing on roadside in Wisconsin?? Saw lots along one quarter mile stretch. Frequently is -20 in winter. Stayed last night in prototype passive solar home in Viroqua that only uses equivalent of one hairdryer's worth of power to heat in winter, and last winter didn't even turn it on!

Wallowa Lake, near town of Joseph, OR. Michael is no longer a rodeo virgin. We went to the rodeo during Chief Joseph Days. The best part was the 4 year olds riding "bucking" sheep. They call it mutton busting. Too cute. And when a pissed off bull had all the rodeo guys climbing the fence, with the crowd cheering him on.
