A new TechShop like place for inventors in this small city. Part of a renovation of an old steel mill. I spent some time describing TechShop to them. Basically I sold them the TechShop dreams. What they are doing is more of a think tank place for large companies to share workspace. Not a DIY shop like ours. Still cool though

Cows, fields, river, windmills (just out of the frame), old nuclear power plant turned it to a theme park with rides? There is a roller coster concession stands and a set of spinning swings inside of the cooling tower. At least they painted a nice mountain scape on the side of it.

The daunting task of travel with our bike suitcases and gear is going to be a lot of work. Katy an I are ready physically, but mentally, well ... we will need to see.

We have now been awake for 22 hours. I knew that our days punishment was just starting when we were told that our 'direct flight' had a layover in Hong Kong. I've tried to do the math on how Many hours Katy and I will be awake on Saturday but the figure is boggling my sleep deprived brain. Soup was not enough food I will now go in search of sustenance.

Anti-American propaganda video. Referring to us as a crazy blood thirsty gang that shot guns and dropped bombs everywhere killing with out care. It was interesting to see that almost the same thing we said about them to scare us and inspire us to fight in battle was said about us. Lots of talk about how the VC hid in plain sight as farmers. Reminds Katy and I a lot of what we hear about Afghanistan these days. Disregard crazy leaders and everyone shares the same needs and wants.

One of the famous Fraser Island perched lakes. These lakes are in a constant state of flux depending on there proximity to giant sand blows. One we visited with turtles and cat fish is being swallowed by about a meter a year. Another interesting feature is the color of all but a few lakes here. The brown color is due to the tetre oils leaching out of the leaves.'

We made it!!! Through scary bug infested brush down to the beach. I only screamed like a teenage girl twice. The first one was only a three inch bug that landed on my chest but the second was a spider at least as big as the palm of my hand and a body as big as my thumb! I tried to step around some webs and caught my hat right as i saw this abnormally large arachnid started moving around. Screaming and failing around the web half grabbed my sunglasses. The other half I swatted with my hand hand with a good amount of force. They just hung there inches from this beast. It took me a minute to work up the nerve to venture back to collect them. I guess at this time Katy just said fuck it and started running up the trail with no concern for my well fair. She later recounted after the ordeal that "I could handle it my self and i figured you could get your self out of that situation". Thanks Katy....

Lonely and beautiful. This is our second to last campground. We were actually kept company by two native chicken like things. One mom an an almost full size chick. The mom would grab the bread we tossed out, take it back in to the chick. She was searching all night for more and in the morning we were able to hand fee her. Quite cute. Lastly she made these grunting noises that don't sound like they come from a bird

LAX gets a D- as a grade. This is a terrible airport. So disorganized that we had to leave a terminal and go through the most poorly run security ever. The idiot pot us in the slow "new fliers" line. This is the line for people who don't know about liquids and apparently cured hams. I'm not kidding we had to wait an extra 10 minutes because of this fuss an old Samoan made. Great night at the pub. My team came in second place. We were quite proud of our selves. The long and winding road in the fog took for ever on account of the fact I had to pee. The only thing that put s hamper on the evening is that we came in second to a "B" team named the "Honey bees" led by Grandma and Katy :-(

DEATHTRAP! Fantastic thriller. Surprise finish with lots of twists.
We have been using a lot of public transit all over London. Buses, subways, an long distance surface train. It's quite fantastic. We bought this multi pass thing for about £12 and all the public transit is open all day. America .... Get it together.

At the Tate Modern. This place use to be a very large power plant. It has been converted in to a modern art museum free to the public. Today there was a failed interactive piece that consisted of 1,000,000 porcelain sunflower seeds. The fail part is that the "artist" didn't realize that when porcelain rubs against it's self, as it does when people walk and play with it, it creates a hazardous dust that is quite bad for the lungs.

Waiting for the bus.
So to start off this day Katy found out our flight was delayed more than just a few hours. The six hour push caused u to miss the connecting but that ok because we now get to ride the London subway "The Tube" and then take a surface train to Leeds.
After Katy and I leave Dreamworks we swing by local batting cages we head our friends house and open the "locked" door. You know it's a good thing that good people like don't go by and find open houses and sneak in there to grab a quick shower and a snack. Anyways guys we shut the door for you. Thank us later.
To make matters worse we missed the bus on account of me forgetting to pack my secret Santa gift.
I was able to sprint across 6 lanes of traffic and dash through all of the bewildered shoppers up to the Macy's door and within minutes score the very same gift. "Quick to the cashier!" I arrive and wait for 20 minutes behind ladies who can't decide between black and brown and want to ask their new best friends advice. After those ladies and the ones putting things on hold, who ever passed up an expensive impulse buy and came back the next day anyway? So it's now my turn, the cashier can't swipe my card and then so I have to wait in another line and start it all over again.
The second line is the same story up until I am next. It's almost my turn and I've about had it with the slow pokes and some guy notices how close I am to destroying the case of gift cards and calls me over. That man saved a lot of people a lot of terror by adverting my inner HULK by given me cutsies.
Finally I'm out of there and running, no sprinting again through the halls of Stanfurd shopping mall only to take a wrong turn in to Bloomingdales! What ever I'm not stopping! Jogging turned to running when I saw the doors. Full sprint across the parking lot and jumping over the hedge and over the 6 lane road. Yes I'm there! "Katy did I make it?" "No"
Shit. And now that's where we are waiting 57 minutes for the hourly bus.
We are just trying to leave Palo Alto. We're not even to the airport....

This is it folks. We pulled up the roots, put the jobs on hold, and gave the fish away. 9 months, 15+ countries, 2 people going for a look around.
This trip starts out with a Pacific rim trip down to Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, and some of South East Asia. Then back home to Oregon for some time of from the vacation. Once in Oregon its time to start riding the bike again because its not long till we fly to Europe to ride from Italy north until we are just to tired to ride anymore. After 9 short months wondering around we head back to the mid peninsula for some more time in the area for at least two more years.
Check in and send us comments on the trip and requests as to where you want us to visit for you.

Good stuff. If you're arriving in Switzerland from the NE then you're right in my area. If I'm here then my offer stands. I might get on the road myself in the next few weeks, but I'll keep an eye on your progress and hopefully we'll cross paths.
The Danube and Rhine routes are both fantastic. Your're going to love them. Safe travels!

We are here now. Just landed in England. We will be flying to Italy tomorrow and moving around towards the coast then over to Croatia. From there it's on to hungry and train to budapest. Along the Danube to Switzerland and follow the rhine out towards holland and england. Are you along that path chris?
